Our Story – By Susan Osiche, Founder and Executive Director of INUA KIKE

“I founded INUA KIKE—‘Women Rising’—in August 2015 in the heart of Mathare, Nairobi, driven by my own lived experiences and a deep conviction that women and girls, especially those from marginalized communities, with/without disabilities, deserve safety, dignity, and opportunity. What began as a grassroots movement has grown into a dynamic, community-led organization rooted in justice, empowerment, and transformative change. At INUA KIKE, we believe women and girls are not just survivors, they are leaders and change-makers. Our work aligns with SDG 5, tackling all forms of violence against girls and women, including gender-based violence and Sexual gender-based violence and inequality, through holistic, inclusive, and intersectional programs. From trauma-informed care to leadership training and economic empowerment, we walk with women on their path to independence. Our safe spaces offer healing and learning. Our advocacy amplifies voices. And through our Disability Department, we ensure every intervention is accessible and equitable. INUA KIKE is more than a movement, it’s a commitment to a just, inclusive society where every woman and girl can rise, thrive, and lead. Join us. When women rise, communities thrive.”
