Adult Education & KCSE Re-entry Program

Ongoing

Jan 3, 2023

The "Adult Education & KCSE Re-entry Program" is a transformative initiative by Inua Kike Organization aimed at providing a second chance at education for young women aged 16 to 35 in Nairobi's informal settlements, particularly Mathare.

Many of these women have dropped out of school due to factors such as early pregnancies, financial constraints, and societal pressures. Recognizing the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, the program offers tailored support to help them complete their secondary education.

Flexible learning schedules are provided to accommodate various responsibilities, including childcare and employment. Experienced educators and mentors guide the participants through the curriculum, ensuring they are well-prepared for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Beyond academic instruction, the program emphasizes holistic development. Participants engage in life skills workshops covering topics like financial literacy, health education, and personal development, aiming to build confidence, self-awareness, and resilience.

A notable success story is that of Maureen Riziki, who, after dropping out of school due to early pregnancy, joined the program, successfully completed her KCSE, and secured a bursary to study plant operation.

The program also fosters a supportive community among participants through regular group meetings and peer-to-peer mentorship, creating a sense of belonging and mutual encouragement.

Looking ahead, Inua Kike aims to expand the program's reach, incorporating digital literacy components and vocational training to further enhance employability.
